FQA's

In preparation for your shoot i've popped below some frequently asked questions that may help...

What should I bring to the shoot?

I recommend bringing 4-6 options to shoot in. It's good to bring a selection of changes however please whittle it down a bit and plan what you want to wear for the shoot so we can spend as much time in front of the camera in each outfit as possible. I'm happy to help you choose what works best for you if you bring a small selection but do try options on and plan what you want to wear ahead of the session.  Different textures and necklines work well - bring colours you love and compliment you - avoid large logos, patterns and writing as well as thick stripes as these can be distracting.

I have a mirror and dressing table in my studio - please bring your make up and hair products with you so you can do touch ups as we go.

If you wear jewellery regularly then please do bring it - I like you to feel yourself!  I always recommend wearing clothes you love and feel comfortable in as this will really show in the final shots.

Can I shave?

If you wish to shave there is a bathroom in my studio. Please bring a cordless razor as there are no plug sockets in the bathroom. If you have very sensitive skin that's prone to flare ups after shaving then it may not be wise to do this during your shoot.  I am able to edit out any cuts or spots or slight redness after shaving however it can be very hard to edit if skin has a large flare up or reaction, so if your skin is prone to this then i would advise not to shave.

How should I prepare?

In the lead up to your shoot I recommend staying hydrated (lots of water and try and stay off the booze!) I can of course work my editing magic on spots/ dark and puffy eyes but it's always god to feel good and staying hydrated will help with this.

Please DO NOT get a hair cut too close to your shoot date!! If you are going to the hair dresser in preparation make sure you know what your getting done and give time to allow the new cut or colour to settle before your shoot as you don't want it to be cut too short the day before. I also advise not trying a totally different cut or colour right before either  - stay with what you know and what you like so you feel yourself and confident on the day!

Have a think about what you want to wear in advance - try your tops on before you come like a dress rehearsal so you know how they're going to look.  Don't just throw some stuff in a bag and hope for the best. I shoot on a cream and a charcoal backdrop. If you have a look on my insta page (icon at the bottom) you'll see lots of examples of my work and see what other people have worn for inspiration.

Please be on time - make sure you've planned your journey ahead of your session so you know where your going and don't feel rushed.

How long will it take to get my gallery?

I only shoot one person a day so that i'm able to go home and make up your gallery that afternoon and have it to you that same day. So I almost always get the gallery to you on the same day or within 24 hours. I keep your photos for a year from your shoot date so you are able to purchase any extra edits within the year.

Can I chat to you before the shoot?

I'm happy to reply to any questions you may have over email but I'm afraid due to my limited availability and schedule I'm unable to have meetings or phone calls to discuss your shoot prior to booking or your session. Hopefully these FQA's will answer any questions you have but if there is anything else that comes to mind that I haven't covered, drop me an email and I'll reply as soon as i'm able.

Can I bring someone to the shoot?

I'm afraid I don't let more than one person in the studio at a time. I know it can feel tempting to want to bring a pal along but I've found from past experience that this can be really distracting for both you and me and I want to be able to give you my full attention. There is a kitchen area in the studio space and a fab coffee shop round the corner that pals are welcome to wait in and meet you when you're finished.

I hate getting my headshots taken - how do you run your sessions to help with nerves?

I've added this question as it's one I hear a lot! I completely understand - getting your headshot taken can be daunting and we all put a lot of pressure on it. I keep my shoots really relaxed and informal - before we start I make a plan with your outfits when i see what you've brought and chat through your hair and make up and what you like etc so I know exactly what you want and how to organise the shoot to suit you. I'll chat you through everything and put you at ease so nothing is a surprise.

I'm also an actor, so I know exactly how it feels to have my own photos taken and be on the other side of the camera. I run my sessions how I would like to be shot myself and have years of experience of shooting actors, directors, writers, producers  and musicians. I know what Agents and Casting Directors need and want from a good headshot - most importantly is that you feel comfortable and happy during the shoot as this really reflects in your final shots and I'll guide you through the whole process and promise it's all super relaxed and fun!
